Maak je eigen Sint

Gisteren zette ik geheel zonder erbij na te denken "Oh, kom er eens kijken" in bij de achterdeur toen de schoenen gevuld waren. Stom natuurlijk, want halverwege de eerste regel realiseerde ik me dat ik de tekst eigenlijk niet kende*. Met wat last minute improvisatie kwam het gelukkig nog best professioneel over. Dus ik had wat goed te maken met de Goede man.



Dus ik dacht, laat ik de kids aan de knutsel zetten. Helaas zijn ze nog een beetje te klein, dus het kwam er op neer dat de kleine man ontdekte wat er allemaal met Pritt stift aan het tafelkleed bleef plakken (bijna alles) en dat de dame de door mij gemaakte poppetjes op onnavolgbare wijze voorzag van prullen.



Ik geef toe, ik heb me bij de Sint een beetje laten gaan. Maar ik had dan ook wat goed te maken.

Misschien kun je thuis ook aan de gang met je prittstift, wat wc rolletjes en wat vouwblaadjes. De oogjes komen van de Xenos. Bij Hema hebben ze die ook. Altijd handig.

Of je komt vanavond naar Stijl&co in Helmond even kijken hoe ik daar koekjes zit te maken. Ook leuk.

Geen naaimachine...

Stel, je wilt de adventkalender van de vorige post maken, maar je hebt geen naaimachine. Dan moet je twee dingen doen: zet eerst een naaimachine op je verlanglijstje (je zult me dankbaar zijn!) en vervolgens bestel je bij Mjammie deze koekjes voor in je schoen, om de Sint te lijmen.



Of je wacht even tot morgen, dan kom ik met een no-sew versie van de slinger.

Neglect

I am so sorry for Neglecting you! With a capital N, no less. Being busy is no excuse.

Right now I am planning our Sinterklaas party, which takes a lot of shopping and playing with stressed out kids (for our American readers, it's like Santa Clause but without the christmas-part) and planning for my first cookie-class on 10-12 with De Taartwinkel which is sold out. And in the middle of all this, I am figuring out what cookies and cupcakes to sell at the Sunday Market christmas edition on december 18.

If you celebrate Sinterklaas and if you have kids that are running around, being stressed out and fiddly, you can make this Zwarte Piet mask with them. Print it on a A4 paper and color it, cut it out and add a rubber band and let the fun begin!

Pakjesavond

Tomorrow it is what they call in Dutch "Pakjesavond". It is the climax of Sinterklaas and I dare to say that most children are now stressed to the max! Especially since they have a daily Sinterklaas newsupdate on tv, and every year it's the same: everything is going wrong and no one will get any presents. Most kids have sleepless nights over that!

Wow, now that I think of it, it is actually a pretty cruel tradition...

Nevertheless, there are tons of Dutch books about it. I found one at our local grocery store, that was so adorable, that I just had to share some of the pictures with you! It kind of reminds me of two of my favorite illustrators, Ingela P Arrhenius and Dawbis.

Just a small recap for the non-Dutch: Sinterklaas comes to The Netherlands every year by boat, because he actually lives in Spain. He brings his little Helpers, called Zwarte Piet ("Black Pete", not too politically correct, by the way). On December 5th, he celebrates his birthday (which is on Dec. 6) by bringing all children presents. During his stay in The Netherlands, kids can put their shoe by the back door or the mantlepiece and Sint and Piet will put a present in the shoe if the children sing a song. Sometimes they add a little something for Sinterklaas' horse, Amerigo.






So tomorrow we'll have lots of presents! Yay!
